Fine Red Wines: The Event!

A unique voyage into the world of Fine Red Wines held at the Grande Bretagne hotel on December 8th, in collaboration with Vinetum.

The last few years have brought a communication revolution when it comes to Greek wine, which has made the introduction of various indigenous varieties to a wider audience all the more possible.  It is fairly straightforward these days to get access to good Greek and international wines through the many tasting sessions organised by wine merchants and restaurants, as well bigger events held by members of the wine producing industry itself.

We therefore thought it was time to take the next step; an event like no other previously held in Greece, to celebrate Fine Red Wines.  The term fine wine of course is always open to interpretation. Whether it’s old wineries or classic vintages, experimental vinification or labels that allow producers to show off their knowledge or overall philosophy, this is a world of pure inspiration. At the Grande Bretagne Hotel on the 8th of December,we will be joined by the world’s premium wine writer, Jancis Robinson, and Financial Times restaurant critic, Nicholas Lander.

With the €38 entry fee, our guests will receive a block of 10 coupons, each worth €3, which they can then exchange at the various exhibitor stands.  The wine on offer would not only usually be cost prohibitive but also difficult to access, especially in a major wine exhibition setting. Wines will be served in 50ml portions and will cost one or more coupons, depending on each exhibitor’s discretion.  As an example, wines which retail at €120 will cost 2 coupons.  Obviously each attendee can buy one or more blocks of coupons.  It is also worth pointing out that the journey will take in more than just Greece as major wine importers like Aiolos, Cellier, Deals, Oinokosmos and Trinity, will be showing off their “big guns” for the delectation of Greek oenophiles.

The fun doesn`t stop there however.  A team of specially selected sponsors, like Veuve Clicquot champagne and Arla cheeses, will be providing their products free of charge to enhance the overall experience.  Other sponsors include Miele and their amazing wine coolers, Volvo cars, and none other than Mont Blanc if the wine itself wasn`t enough to address our need for the finer things in life.

Other events

As part of our Fine Red Wines tasting event, we are organising a number of very special Master Classes for those who want to delve deeper into the world of fine wines. During the first one, the “€50 Challenge”, we are going to do a “blindfold” test of six wines from Greece and beyond, while during “Cabernet blends: Bordeaux Vs the New World” the attendees will taste six spectacular wines with a Cabernet Sauvignon base from the Bordeaux region, as well as Australia and California.  More details, including entry fees and registration, will be announced in the next few days.

To top off this unique event, there will be a dinner held at the Tudor Hall prepared by chef Sotiris Evangelou, which will of course showcase some very special wines and Grande Dame Veuve Clicquot champagne.
