Dalliance House reloaded

Thalia Tsichlaki reports on the Dalliance House in the post-Samaras period

Most people loved Yiannis Samaras’ cocktails, so Dalliance House has become known as a great bar, rather than a restaurant, which is what was initially opened as. Owners Marilena Spanoudaki (who also took care of the décor) and her husband Lefteris Bakopoulos decided to work with chef Petros Dimas, known for working at top-notch restaurants like Hytra, in order to overturn that reputation.

Anyone who tries the new menu will really see the change of attitude here. Even though it was meant to fall in line with the ‘all day’ concept, it has gone even further and turned into gastropub with plenty of gourmet touches. Some of the best examples are the mushroom ‘cappuccino’ soup (one of the best we’ve ever tried) served with a crunchy biscuit, an unexpected cucumber roll filled with salmon tartare, a great tuna steak (tagliata) with a great hazelnut mayonnaise and a gorgeous banoffee pie which is a vast improvement on the original menu’s version. Despite the huge portions, it’s obvious that the new chef is ‘dallying’ with gourmet cooking and is trying to firmly place Dalliance House in the list of top restaurants in the Northern suburbs.  Another plus point is the stunning and very efficient bartender, Victoria Knysh, who you’ll get to know and love because of her light touch.
